Robotic elephant and traditional rhythms mark Kerala’s WSS Pooram in Dubai
Kerala community recreates grand traditions at Dubai Crescent School
DUBAI – Dubai came alive with colour and tradition as the Keraliyans Village of Wadakkanchery staged the WSS Pooram festival at Dubai Crescent School.
The event drew a large crowd and recreated the essence of a classic Kerala Pooram through elaborate performances, vibrant installations, and traditional artistry.
Attendees experienced a lively celebration filled with music, visual splendour, and community spirit as families and children contributed to the cultural showcase.

The festival featured a majestic robotic elephant alongside chendamelam rhythms, pookkavadi floral displays, colourful masks, and an array of creative presentations. Renowned Kerala artists Bhagyaraj, Vaishnav, Sheril Shaji, Shreya Jaideep, and Ranju Chalakkudi captivated the audience with musical performances that added to the immersive atmosphere.
Cultural stalls and themed booths across the venue highlighted Kerala’s heritage, offering visitors an engaging view into traditional crafts and customs.
Who led it?
The event was organised by Eventbrite and successfully coordinated by Firosekhan, Leo Thomas, Jaffar, Venu, Suresh, Bimal James, Aboobacker, Riyas, Shanuja, and Fousiya. Their combined efforts brought the grandeur of the Pooram to Dubai, ensuring a smooth flow of activities across the evening.
The function was inaugurated by noted Kerala actor Niyas Backer. Distinguished guests in attendance included Omar Al Mazrouki, Nisar Thalnakara, President of IAS, and Sreepakash, Secretary of the Indian Association Sharjah. They were formally felicitated during the programme, adding prominence to the cultural gathering.
For the Kerala community, the event offered a vivid reminder of the traditions of home, blending heritage with the multicultural spirit of Dubai. The festive installations, performances, and community participation created an atmosphere filled with nostalgia and celebration, reinforcing a shared sense of identity for attendees of all ages.
